Echos de Cezanne

Traces of a paintbrush, traces of a character

Echos de Cezanne

In 2025, Aix-en-Provence will be home to a major Cezanne retrospective, celebrating the enduring legacy of one of the city’s most illustrious residents. This year will mark a momentous reunion between the artist and his hometown, as the Granet Museum honours his timeless legacy with a major exhibition of over 130 iconic works from across the globe.

In parallel with this landmark event, Gallifet is delighted to present « Echos de Cezanne » (Echoes of Cezanne), an exhibition that explores the lasting influence of the artist Picasso referred to as ‘the father to us all’ on modern and contemporary artists. Whether established or emerging, local or international, sculptors, photographers and painters alike lay claim to a Cezannean lineage. Many others however, may not have consciously sought this influence, yet the imprint is unmistakable, evident in the recurring themes central to his work, which this exhibition will explore.

Among the artists whose work bares traces of the Aix master are names familiar to many, but our focus does not stop there. We have collaborated with the young curator and gallerist Pierre Allizan to include a selection of emerging artists from an up-and-coming generation, each of whom, in their own way, continues to carry Cezanne’s legacy forward.

The curator

With a background in art history, Pierre Allizan specialises in 19th- and 20th-century painting. As an independent curator, his early exhibitions highlighted the renewed interest in figurative painting both in France and across the globe. Following a year at the Palais de Tokyo, then under the direction of Jean de Loisy, he contributed to a number of exhibitions and independent art fairs that helped bring to light a new generation of European artists.

Between 2019 and 2024, Pierre worked alongside curator and art consultant Laurence Dreyfus, playing a key role in exhibitions featuring renowned artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Claire Tabouret, Edmund de Waal, Tomás Saraceno, and Cindy Sherman.

Today, he continues to curate projects in Paris and the south of France, helping artists shape their career growth and advising collectors on their acquisitions.
