Aboubakar Fofana is an artist and designer, whose work spans calligraphy, textiles and natural dyeing methods. He is known for breathing new life into the traditional indigo dyeing techniques of West Africa, as part of his mission to preserve and reimagine the natural materials and methods that are so crucial in this region's textile heritage.
His practise is rooted in the spiritual philosophy that views nature as inherently divine. Through honouring this sacredness, he seeks a deeper understanding of the universe. He uses entirely natural materials, and his work flows with the rhythms nature- exploring themes of birth, decay, transformation and the emphemeral beauty of impermanence.
