Aurore Thibout

Fashion designer, textile and visual artist, Aurore Thibout work is situated between fashion and costume, in constant dialogue with traditional craftsmanship, particularly in Japan.

After winning both the City and Audience Prize at the Hyères International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories in 2006 and the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris in 2013, she continued her research during a residency at Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto in 2015, where she deepened her study of "katazome", the traditional Japanese stencil-dyeing technique.

Her practice is shaped by close collaborations with artisans, weavers,         and dyers – particularly in Asia – exploring the diffusion and transformation of traditional craftsmanship. Her works exist at the intersection of clothing, installation, and performance.

Created in dialogue with choreographers such as Kaori Ito and Satchie Noro, they explore the interactions between textile, movement, and the body, revealing the sensory dimension of material itself. Informed by both ecological and poetic reflection, her unique pieces redefine the role of clothing as both a repository of ancestral gestures and a contemporary space for expression.
