Les racines poussent dans l'ombre

An exhibition of textural works

« Les Racines Poussent dans l’Ombre » (Roots grow in the shade) tells a tale of artisans and their relationship with the material world. It can be seen as the continuation of the exhibition Mémoire Désir (winter 2022 / 23). 

The hand of the artisan, much like a root, has the potential to reach far. Anchored in the here, the now and the then of ancient techniques, the hand can craft a brave new world. The root acts as a narrative thread, a metaphor for evolution, a quest for identity and the possibility of a better tomorrow.

Materials such as silk, paper, earth, glass, wicker, wood, wool, plastic and bronze are transformed, at times revealing surprising links between craft and the worlds of science and technology that encourage us to question our own relationship with the material world.
